Hall of fame

The Werribee Cricket Club is proud to announce the inauguration of its Hall of Fame, a tribute to the remarkable individuals who have left an indelible mark on our club’s storied history. This prestigious accolade celebrates the players, coaches, and contributors whose exceptional talent, dedication, and leadership have shaped the club’s legacy and inspired future generations. The Hall of Fame not only honours their significant achievements on the field but also acknowledges their commitment to fostering the spirit and camaraderie that define Werribee Cricket Club. Through this enduring recognition, we aim to preserve and celebrate the rich history that continues to drive our collective pursuit of excellence.

At our presentation night that was held on 29th April 2023, the Werribee Cricket Club Hall of Fame had its first inductees with Kirk Norton, Ivo Havard, Joe Alifraco and Eddie Marriott the inaugural members. In addition, Kirk was elevated to a Legend status due to his outstanding achievements for the club.

LEGEND Kirk Norton
– Inducted 2023

There was never any doubt on who would be first inducted into the Werribee CC Hall of Fame and quickly followed by an announcement as the inaugural Club Legend. A long-distinguished career on and off the field, cricket people in the Western Suburbs and beyond identify Kirk Norton and the Werribee CC as one. As a player Kirk was beautiful seam bowler with a happy knack of taking wickets when most required, the same with his batting, it was when the team needed Kirk that he was at his very best with bat or ball. Kirk was an inspiring leader who brought the best out of his players. Players played for Kirk Norton as a strong, passionate leader of men and an uncompromising, relentless game style that opposition didn’t like to play against. A 4 time 1st XI Premiership player plus a Championship, there is no doubt that Kirk’s career highlight was the famous “back to back to back” premierships 1993/94, 1994/95 and 1995/96 as the Captain Coach of that golden era. The 1st XI Champion Player Award is named in his honour and is known as the Kirk Norton Medal. Kirk carried the same passion and commitment off the field. Kirk made things fun and enjoyable for everyone. The strength of our club on and off the field is largely indebted to this man. He is of course a legend, and the Werribee CC will forever be indebted to Kirk Norton. Kirk was also inducted into the VSDCA Hall of fame at the conclusion of the 2022/23 season, a tremendous achievement from one of the clubs greatest.

Ivo Havard OAM
– Inducted 2023

Ivo whilst having a long and distinguished playing career as a middle order bat and 4 x time 1st XI Premiership player plus a Championship, it has been in the junior space where he has left a huge legacy for the club. Being part of the 1991 Werribee Junior CC setting up and staying on as the main conduit between juniors and seniors to this day. The Werribee Junior CC maintains a powerhouse status in the west because of in a big part to Ivo’s sustained effort, commitment, and passion. 16 seasons as coach of the Hatch (now Craig) Shield is probably Ivo’s proudest achievement at the club! Another one who takes on any and most jobs at the club, he is a club first person, always looking out for the Werribee CC. Ivo Havard, a very worthy member of the Werribee CC Hall of Fame.

Joe Alifraco
– Inducted 2023

Joe Alifraco loves the Werribee CC and the Werribee CC loves Joe. Joe played in our Inaugural season 1971/72 and put together a fine career record with his leg spin bowling and lower order batting. 2nd only to Kirk Norton with the most 1st XI games and holding the record for the most 1st XI bowling awards. He was an integral part of the famous 3 peat, spinning the team to victory on many occasions. Having the 1st XI Bowling Award named in his honour is certainly a great achievement. Joey like all great club people, left a legacy off the field as well with his commitment at committee level and to this day is still pitching in with odd jobs that must be done day to day at clubland. Joe Alifraco is a very deserving member of the Werribee CC Hall of Fame.

Eddie Marriott
– Inducted 2023

Eddie has been a massive part of the fabric of the Werribee CC since inception in 1971/72. A very good off spin bowler, lower order batsman and “annoying” close in fieldsman. Eddie’s talents off the field are also recognised within his longevity at the club. Playing a role in most administrative, social and higher office duties and is recognised with the Best Club Person Award named in his honour. He is still highly regarded at the VSDCA for his leadership and guidance as our Club Delegate for 17 years. As he has wound down his official roles, he still stays on as an unbelievable supporter of the club, never missing a 1st XI game. Hall of Fame recognition at the Werribee CC fits very well for Eddie Marriott.

David Norman
– Inducted 2024

David Norman’s induction into the Werribee Cricket Club Hall of Fame is a testament to his remarkable contributions to the club. As an exceptional talented player and leader, Davids exceptional skill and unwavering commitment on the field set a high standard for excellence. This was shown by winning 6 Kirk Norton medals, all which where in a row. He was also part of the first eleven premierships in the 90’s, playing a huge role in the success of the team. David is a well deserved inductee into the Werribee Cricket Club hall of fame.
